REFLECTIONS

Experiences
Typography was a challenging yet rewarding module I have this semester. I learned a lot and improved so much since the first class. My first impression of this module was that Typography is easy and that it would be the most laid-back class amongst the others. The reason why it was so difficult for me is that there have been many times I felt so lost and was somehow always one of the slowest in understanding the assignments. There were times when I doubted myself as a designer as well. I feel equipped with basic knowledge that can make sure that the type in my future works will look at the very most decent. Classes were fruitful and consultation hours helped me, even when it was not about my work. It helped me be able to be critical of my own work and see what can be improved. Overall, the experience throughout this module was a good rollercoaster ride.

Observations
This class has changed me a lot. It has became a subconscious habit of mine where I will start analyzing and judge the designs around me. I will start analyzing the typeface used, letterspacing, overall layout and composition settings, the level of readability and legibility. Also, I observed that I had improved greatly in my skills in Typography which I can see from comparing my very first work in Typography to the current works. It's amazing how far I've come in 14 weeks, yet I still have so much to learn.

Findings
I've discovered that typography is more than what meets the eye. Many unspoken rules and regulations are followed by designers in order to create something that is both visually appealing and useful for readers and viewers. This module taught me that I should be more confident in attempting interesting and difficult designs. I had a habit of adhering to concepts that seemed easy and safe, yet breaking free from that bubble sometimes lead in work that exceeds my own expectations. I discovered that being a designer also involves being bold enough to be unique and try something new. Only when we have the confidence to do so can we better express our ideas. I definitely have a lot more to learn and a lot more room for improvement. Hence , I am really appreciative for all of Mr. Vinod's constructive criticisms and feedback, which played a significant role in helping me to improve and grow.
