Final Reflection

What have I learnt in this module?

I learned not only different design principles but also how to apply them effectively in my designs to better convey a message and story. I have also learned to look at my designs from different perspectives and to think critically so that I can improve more.

What did I enjoy the most?

I enjoy how I can use my creativity and imagination freely in the design process and portray the ideas in my head through various forms of illustration. It's a totally new experience. The sense of accomplishment and joy is very enjoyable when the final artwork is presented. Also, when Dr Jinchi recognises my effort, it greatly motivates me to showcase my work confidently.

What did I not enjoy the most?

What I didn't enjoy the most was probably having to complete the task within the specified time frame. I'm not a procrastinator, but when a deadline approaches and I don't have any inspiration or ideas, I get really stressed. I hope to learn how to slow down because I believe that if I'm anxious during the design process, there will be no quality work produced. It will be a long adaptation process, but I will try to adjust and become a better designer.

What have I learnt about myself through this module?

I have a new perspective and understanding of myself. When it comes to design, I have my insistence, probably because it's something I'm passionate about, so I want to make it perfect or present the desired results. There are many moments when I struggle and feel incapable of interpreting my ideas well. Still, I am trying to accept or embrace my capabilities and allow myself to grow at a comfortable pace. It's amazing to be immersed in joy when doing something I love.

What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

My work quality and skills have both improved. Meanwhile, there has been a shift in perspective while viewing and appreciating various designs. I used to look at artwork with my eyes and judge whether it was good or bad, but I've changed my views and learnt to use my heart to feel what the artist is trying to portray.

What could be improved in this module?

This was one of my favourite modules of the semester, and the open-ended learning model helped me explore my potential. So, the module needs to keep its qualities rather than improve. Many thanks to Dr. Jinchi for her constant help and support, which inspired me with great motivation to continue.
